whitespace, javascript and good typography. I'm sold. jstraining.de

comic sans criminal

unlike your hateful friend Else, this site schools you on comic sans (spit) in a much more polite & well designed manner: comicsanscriminal (go there now or I will kick you)

and while I'm ranting...

i might as well add that Papyrus should also die a slow and painful death and then be fed to hungry pigs in Italy. This is not ancient Egypt and using this gross font will not make your business, ministry or church logo look any more spiritual so cut it out. Ugh. Spit, spit.

die comic sans, die!!

unless you are my 65 year old mother from Brazil putting church flyers together for a bake sale, you really don't have any decent excuse for using Comic Sans (spit). And even if you ARE my mother, you're going to use it only once because Else Bear will sit your butt down and school you on proper font usage.

Funny enough, imagine if these famous logos were redone w/ Comic Sans. Lord, help us.

doyald young

Very sad to learn this morning that logotype designer Doyald Young has passed. He was 84. An advocate for craftsmanship and precision in typography, his work is beyond brilliant.

lynda.com has a couple of Doyald videos you must check out.

fontifier

thinking about developing some of my scribbles into my own font but I don't have time (or money) to deal with all the font designing software out there. Fontifier to the rescue! Create & name your own font for just $9 using your own handwriting - wouldn't it be awesome to take your kid's handwriting and turn it into a font? and for 9 buckaroos? Double awesome.

veer goodness

while looking for an utilitarian sans serif font yesterday, my sweet friend turtle shared this one with me: filmotype (above) by Veer. Else Boo had not visited Veer in a while so I had a good time swimming in that ocean of pretty stuff.

more chalk ♥

I despise caramel (i'm going somewhere with this). And do you know why? Because I have the gift of "obsession until sick", is what my mother calls it. When Else Cake was 8ish, she spent an entire allowance on a giant bag of hard caramels, her favorite. I knew if I went home my mom was going to make me share them with my mean, mean brothers so instead, I climbed up my neighbor's tree and ate the entire bag. I got sick. The end.

Chalk lettering & drawing is becoming my caramels. I'm obsessing. I'm pretty sure I'll be sick of it before long and will feel ill at the sight of it. But for now? I'm up in the tree feeling nothing but love for it.

xoxo,

Else Pooh

PS: Oh, geez. By the way, this is Dana Tanamachi. She's a Brooklyn based letterer & graphic designer. I ♥ u, Dana.

post typography

First you gotta own the rules, then you can break them. I suppose this is an example of when breaking them works.
