While belly aching to an old friend (about folks' disregard for white space), he wrote me:

i had a teacher that had the best example of the power of white space... he had 2 papers. one had a bunch of #$@& on it, the other blank... he held up the junky one for us to look at. then he put a dot on it and showed us again and asked us to find the dot... it was hard.... then he held up the blank one, put a dot on it and said, I defy you to NOT notice the dot... the power of white space!

it's 3am and i can't sleep. had to watch very dear friends lose their jobs today, in a day that i can only describe as overwhelmingly sad. i wish a bright future to those who left and a swift recovery for the ones who stayed.
